The Southern New Hampshire Regional Planning Commission was awarded a $500k grant to implement Brownfields Assessment from the US Environmental Protection Agency. The award allows for brownfields assessments of any qualifying site within the planning commission region. This year’s grant award places a focus on applications which address equity and environmental justice. The SNHPC winning application placed an emphasis on addressing needs within the low-income and minority census tracts within the region, as a result portions of Manchester and Derry were identified as high priority areas.

SNHPC staff will work with the SNHPC Brownfields Advisory Committee and Credere Associates, the hired Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) to conduct outreach to the public, inventory brownfields sites, conduct phase I and phase II environmental assessments, develop cleanup action plans, and for a few select sites create comprehensive redevelopment plans that will be vetted with the public.
