LOCAL AND REGIONAL MASTER PLANS

Typically, every five years the SNHPC prepares and updates a comprehensive plan for the region. Additionally, the SNHPC regularly works with member communities in developing and updating local master plans.

Local Master Plans
It is the duty of every Planning Board, as established by RSA 673:1, to prepare and amend a master plan to guide the growth and development of the municipality. The master plan acts as a guide for the future. It identifies the most appropriate future development of the community and aids the Planning Board in designing ordinances that achieve the Master Plan’s vision and result in smart growth, sound planning and wise resource protection.

The Southern New Hampshire Planning Commission provides support and assistance to communities within the region in developing and updating their master plans.

Master Plans currently being updated include:
Deerfield
Raymond

Recently adopted Master Plans include:
Chester Master Plan
New Boston Master Plan
Town of Weare Master Plan Update
Auburn Master Plan

Regional Comprehensive Plan
The Southern New Hampshire Planning Commission has completed the Regional Comprehensive Plan. This plan is prepared in accordance with RSA 36: 47 which requires regional planning commissions to prepare a comprehensive plan for the development of its region.

This is the first time a comprehensive plan has been prepared for the Southern New Hampshire Planning region which is made up of the City of Manchester and the Towns of Auburn, Bedford, Candia, Chester, Derry, Deerfield, Goffstown, Hooksett, New Boston, Londonderry, Raymond, and Weare.

Preparing a Master Plan for your Community
The Southern New Hampshire Planning Commission (SNHPC), under the direction of an oversight committee of state, regional and town planners, has produced this useful new tool. Preparing a Master Plan for Your Community is intended to be used by volunteers, community officials, and professional planners alike, as it provides helpful information, offers instructions, and condenses the master planning process into easy-to-follow steps and procedures. Preparing a Master Plan for Your Community is an interactive CD-ROM, accompanied by a supporting handbook, to assist New Hampshire communities with their planning efforts.
Please contact SNHPC to request a copy of the CD-ROM for your community.
